Heading home

Fluffy cotton wool sky, north of Primm , Nevada
Marshmallow sky, going into California from Oregon

The obligatory arms crossed in front of truck pose

Hi all, loaded the bananas which was a pain as it took 4hrs due to a bone idle forklift driver and an even more lazy gaffer. The weather was truly glorious in Port Hueneme and was touching 80f, thing is I found out my Tripac had given in again which meant no aircon whilst sat and even worse the truck aircon needs regassing so things got a bit heated.
I have been feeling a bit low lately, no particular reason as I am very happy so maybe its just one of those things. What brought me back was I found a way to see who views my site and it was a breath of fresh air as I really felt like giving it up. I have readers in the Sudan, Japan, Holland, Belguim, Sweden, Hungary, Pakistan and Australia as well as the ones you might expect, Uk and USA. It relit the candle I think as although I dont get a lot of comment I know you are reading it!
Have put a big shift in today as need to get to Canada as my hours are running short. Remember I told you that the hours differ once you hit the border ?
I took an amazing video today driving through the Virgin River Gorge but the quality is too high and it would mean splitting it into 10 parts on Youtube as its almost 1.2gb in size. Its brilliant though.
Today was also really hot and I thoroughly enjoyed the drive up. I wish I could post the video I took to give anyone who is thinking of coming here a fantastic reason to come.
If anyone wants me to cover anything in particular then let me know, maybe an article on sliding axles or the best casino to visit in Las Vegas. Speaking of which, for lunch today I stopped at the Oasis casino in Mesquite. I have never seen a spread like it and the choice was awesome. I had Blackened Perch with potatoe salad, BBQ Ribs, some mexican stuff I cant pronounce, a small steak cooked to order and some Lemon Meringue pie with ice cream. Total cost, $7 including a soft drink.
I love this job !!!!!

Hello mate,

There are a lot of people who look at your site and are following it with great interest, I am one. It's guys like you who have sites that keeps the idea of coming out to Canada alive. So please don't give it up!!
This is not a criticism, but try and reply to every comment you get. If you don't then people just wont bother. They like to see what you have to say about their comments and it shows that you are interested in what they say.
The video idea is a very good one. Do you have an account on You Tube? I have one and I check the guys that I subscribe to every day to see if they have a new video up. Try filming for 10 min periods as this is the time limit.
How about doing a piece on every State you have visited, what the speed limit for trucks is, the weight limit and length limit? Also a piece about where you measure the distances from would be good, IE;The max distance from the trailer bogies to the tractors and how you ensure you don't go over. Do you use a tape measure or are there marks on the trailer that tell you the distance. That would be some good info.

Keep your spirits up Monte. You are keeping the Canada dream alive for us English drivers that have yet to make the move. Take care out there bro.

Hi Andy, thanks for taking the time to write what you think.
The video I made is less than ten mins but the size of the file is huge so I will have to find a way to compress it.
Regarding the ideas for new info posts it would mean a lot of work for me as I just know what I need to know, I have always been like that but I will come up with something.
I thought that I did reply to every post, maybe not, but I will make sure I do from now on.
Thanks for your thoughts.
Best wishes, Phil

Hi Phil,

Thanks for the reply. Like I said it's not a criticism, so dont take it personally mate. I have noticed some posts where you have put up the posters remarks, but not replied to some of them. I've counted three posts on the visible page with only 1 comment. Not a big deal I suppose, but it does create a rapport with your viewers.

On the info side of things, I can appreciate it can be a lot of work. Especially as you are so busy driving. It was just an idea of what I would like to see. For example, the distance thing would be a good one as do you measure from the centre hub of the 1st trailer axle to the centre hub of the rear drive axle, or is it from the centre of the Bogey to the centre of the drives etc, you see where I am coming from? By the time you have done answering everyones questions you will almost be an H&R trainer mate!!LOL :-)

We are hoping to come out soon to have a look around. Hopefully you might be around when we do so we can meet up and have a chat. Cheers mate.

i've had a lot of those ups and downs trucking over the years. this is one of the ways i find to keep it fresh and interesting, reading the blogs of people who are enjoying it. Since I know all about trucking in North America I like reading about the differences.
Now I stopped in Mesquite one day and went to the casino on the south side of town, and hated that there was no left turn coming out of the parking lot and had to drive up through town to go south again. Can't remember the name of that one. when you save the video to you computer is it an option at what quality? take care and try to run east more. I know conventional wisdom is that everybody hates the east coast but I find it a lot easier to take. like today i'm leaving home in Iowa for Salt Lake City, UT on monday. 735 miles today just to get to Cheyenne,WY. boring, really boring on the way home when i'm tired. More to see, hear, and do running to the south east and mid-west. north east is more of an advanced program.

Hi Mark, thanks for the comments. Are you and your brother running as a team or going solo?
I am going to a wedding in new York the fisrt few days of May but will prob catch up with you when I get back.

Hi Jim, I am pretty easy go lucky when it comes to where I run. Have only refused one load and that was to go to Laredo texas is 3 days which is not my cup of tea.
I was just feeling a bit down I suppose, nothing to do with work.
The oasis casino in Mesquite is left turn only out of the parking lot so I guess thats the one you stopped at. Driving thru the town is a small price to pay for the food there, did you have the buffet?

Hi Andy, reference trailer axle settings, looks like Lyndon has beaten me to it and a damn good job he has done of it.
Wasnt looking forward to doing it to tell you the truth as I am not sure of the laws and it would of meant a lot of research for me. Long may Lyndon reign !!!

Hi Phil,

I have just read that post on Lyndons blog. Like you say, 1st class job. That's the sort of thing I will need printed off in the cab so that I know what I'm doing. Wouldn't be so bad but as you know, in the UK they never check your weights, so I don't know much about it. Just stick it on and off you go!!

Take it easy mate. Here is an idea. What about a list of all the truck stops you stop at and mark them out of 10 say for facilities, food, etc?

Cheers mate

Andy
