Delivered to Chicago

Downtown Chicago

Hi all, had to deliver the load late but it had all been arranged so there was no problems. I have spoken about "Lumpers" before (people who unload you), well I have just had to pay $140 for the priviledge of been unloaded or rather H&R have had to pay. This is by far the highest amount and considering they took 3hrs to get the stuff off I think its a bit of a con but thats the way it is.
Chicago itself is just one set of roadworks at the minute, everywhere is dug up but thankfully I didnt lose too much time.
On route to Little Chute Wisconsin for a load of pizza which is bound for Calgary, apparentley the trailer is already loaded so I should have a quick turnaround.
Not much else to say really, have plenty of time to reach Calgary which is good as my hours are running low and have already have started to roll over. I think I am going to see just how long I can go without having to reset my hours.
Will keep you up to date, bye for now

Hi Phil, do you have to pay the'lumpers'from your own cash + get it back from H+R, or how does the system work ?Sounds a lot for the driver to pay up front, even if you do get it back.

Hi Steve. Its entirely upto yourself as to wether you pay the lumpers in cash or by EFS cheque.
EFS cheques are carried by all drivers and can be used to pay for all manner of services. After requesting to use one H&R authorise it and then the recipient phones a number on the cheque to make sure its good. Cash can also be drawn using the cheques which comes in handy if going to New York as the tolls are $3-400. Most gas stations will cash your cheque although a few grumble about it if its over $200.
Once the cheque is used it is taken from your wages and then paid back when the receipt is handed into the office, bit of a faff on but thats how it works (no receipt and its bad luck as you foot the bill)
so to answer your question,no, you dont need to use your own cash.
