HDR pictures

Before, an over exposed picture.
After, the finished result
HDR stands for High Dynamic Range.
Basically the same picture is taken 3 times, under-exposed, normal and over-exposed.
The highlights and shadows are taken from them all and blended into one picture.

Finally, an explanation of HDR that I can understand!

Nice picture, by the way. Thanks,

Hi Roland, not one of my best pics but as its been a bit scarse on that front.
If you have a camera that even on automatic settings can bracket (over and under expose pics) then its easy to do. I have a program called photomatix which can handle all of the HDR stuff.
Get in touch if you would like a copy of it.

Hi Phil,
So is it the camera that needs a special setting or is it the software that produces this effect? Not sure if my little digi cam has it, it's a canon ixus 30. Guess i'd need to read up on it. Great picture. I got the Topaz adjust for paint shop pro as you suggested, produces great images.

Hi Graham, the camera has to be able to over and underexpose. The program then takes the best bits from all three pics and joins them up, so yup, the camera has to do all of the hard work.
